Boss: "Coops Has Been Absolutely Fine"

7 September 2017

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says that George Cooper has been absolutely fine after the club rejected deadline day offers for him. The Alex boss dismissed derisory offers fro the smae club for the talented forward because they fell well short of the club’s valuation.

Artell says the 20-year-old from Warrington took all the speculation regarding his future in his stride and that he just has to keep on doing what he has been doing so far this season. Cooper, who hit double figures last season, may not be off the mark so far this season, but he tops the assist league at our level.

Artell explained to crewealex.net: It's not a blow to George. He can do better than the club in question in my opinion.

“He's a professional footballer. If he plays the way he's been playing this season he'll go for the valuation we've set. It'll be a win-win all round.

“He's a good kid. He takes it all in his stride, in footballing terms he's a mature boy and so he should be with that many games under his belt.

“I don't know if he'd have gone to the club if they'd have met our valuation, that's a question for him. But what I do know is he can do better.

The boss added: “If a club comes in for him in January and matches the valuation, I'll shake his hand and wish him all the best. He'll have earned it.”
