Artell: "We Have To Learn To See Games Out"

26 September 2017

It was heart breaking for David Artell and his Crewe Alexandra side as Wycombe Wanderers scored two dramatic late goals to seal all three points at Adams’ Park this evening. Crewe had led 2-1 going into the closing stages of the game but we were left with nothing for our efforts thanks to wonderful strikes from Michael Harriman and Nathan Tyson.

After the 3-2 defeat, Artell told the club’s official web-site: “I felt it was undeserved. The better side lost, but that can happen in football. We are on the wrong end of a defeat but I thought it was unjust. They have scored two screamers in the last five minutes and we are left picking the bones out of it.

“With the exception of the result, I thought  we were terrific but we have lost a game of football and we cannot keep on losing games of football. We lost in the right manner if you like. They gave it everything and they are hurting. They are hurting in there.

“Give them credit because they are real good team but I felt overall the better side lost. It is a different feeling from Saturday because they knew on Saturday they were no where near the standard. They responded well to Saturday but we couldn’t quite get over the line.

He added:  “We played well, defended well but we thought we could defend our box for the last few minutes but it is never safe doing that. We had to get on the ball, two touch and see the game out. We have got to learn to see the game out but it was cruel on us because they have scored two screamers to win it.”
