Artell: "We Have To Get Back To What We Are Good At"

19 September 2017

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell says his side will ‘have to get back to doing what they are good at’ after we suffered league defeats to Cambridge United and Exeter City.

Following those two defeats in a week, the Alex have slipped back down the League table to 15th place and Artell is searching for greater consistency.

The defiant Crewe boss told us: “We will get on with it. What has happened in the last two games has gone. It wasn’t so long ago that we were beating teams 5-1, so we know we are not far off. We will dust ourselves off and go again against Carlisle.

“The work rate from the players is there. The data shows that but my eyes tell me that as well. I can see they are working hard for the Football Club, but we have to be better in both boxes. It is those fine margins. We didn’t convert our chances on Saturday and they did.

“We could have been 2-0 up before they had a first attack then ping, ping, ping it’s in our net. Even Paul Tisdale said to me that he couldn’t believe how well we started the game in the opening ten minutes but it wasn’t enough. We didn’t make the right decisions and the big moments didn’t go for us.

“On one hand I didn’t think it was a 3-0 game but on the other hand 3-0 is 3-0. We have lost the last two games and we have to get back to winning football matches again. Our aim will be to do that on Saturday against Carlisle.

He added: “It is about consistency and going back to what we are good at.”
