Artell On Wycombe Test

26 September 2017

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says he is looking for a positive response from his players against Wycombe Wanderers this evening. The Alex are hurting after suffering a 5-0 home drubbing by Carlisle United at the weekend and Artell says that he will learn more about his players from their reaction tonight.

Crewe face a Wycombe side, who are always a tough proposition, especially at their Adams Park ground and Artell says he is looking to his players to stand up and be counted.

Ahead of our trip to Wycombe, Artell said: “We know Wycombe will be a tough opponent. They have some big lads and are physical and we have to stand up to that. We have to stand up and be counted and compete.

“We succumbed to Carlisle on Saturday and I don’t want to be seeing that again. In adversity, you have to come through it and when you do, you become stronger for it.

“Wycombe have some good forwards. Craig Mackail-Smith has a lot of experience and scored a lot of goals throughout his career.

“Nathan Tyson scored a lot of goals for Wycombe, went to Forest and Derby amongst others and then came back to Wycombe. He has played at a very good level and Akinfenwa is Akinfenwa. We know what his strengths are. It is going to be a right battle and we need to be up for it.”
