Boss: "Not Just One Thing"

29 September 2017

David Artell admits that it is ‘not just one thing’ that has seen his Crewe Alexandra side unable to build on an impressive 5-1 win over Chesterfield just five games ago. The Alex have now lost four on the bounce and that run included the worst performance of the season against Carlisle United.

Artell believes that inconsistency has crept into our game of late.

Ahead of this weekend’s trip to the Ricoh Arena, Artell told crewealex.net: “It hasn’t been one thing. If it was just one thing then that becomes easier to remedy. It has been a mixture of things.

“One week it could be one player making a mistake, then somebody else or a tactical difference or a bit of luck or whatever. If we can play to our potential then there is no doubt in my mind that we can compete with the best sides in the division.

“We played well on Tuesday against a very effective Wycombe side. They are a tough side to play against but we matched them on the night. We just fell short right at the death. It was a thin margin but on the flipside, we lost the game.

“The players know they have to do their jobs properly for 90 plus minutes. If they switch off, or we don’t get our positioning quite right then you get punished. It is all about finding that consistency.

He added: "It is what I was saying when we were winning games and were 4th or whatever we were in the league. Nothing has changed on that and I still believe we can have a success season if we get back to doing what we are good at.”
