Crewe Alexandra are hoping that captain Chris Dagnall will be able to shake off an Achilles injury and declare himself fit and available for the weekend visit of Accrington Stanley.

Dagnall, who has scored four goals this season, missed the mid-week win over Notts County after aggravating the ankle when coming on as a second half sub at Yeovil Town.

With young striker Lewis Reilly also struggling with a neck injury, David Artell was short of striking options from his bench on Tuesday night. Reilly is also hoping to train and make himself available for selection again.

Crewe will also check on midfielder Tom Lowery, who also picked up a minor knock in Tuesday’s 2-0 win but he is expected to retain his place.

Crewe will be without James Jones (pelvic injury) Ryan Wintle (fractured tibia) and George Ray (back)
