Paper Review: Yeovil 2-0 Crewe

16 October 2017

The Chronicle

Crewe Alex slumped to a dismal defeat at struggling Yeovil Town on Saturday.

They bossed the game at times and created enough chances to take the points, but their soft centre was exposed at the back as Rhys Browne and Olufela Olomola scored simple goals.

After the second went in heads dropped despite there being well over half an hour left, and the Glovers should have scored more as the clock ticked down.

It means Crewe, who have only scored three goals away from home all season, are down to 19th in League Two with leaders Notts County due to visit on Tuesday.

It was two out of form sides which went head to head at Huish Park.

Crewe had won only one in seven before kick-off, while Yeovil had managed one in eight.

On the plus side for the Railwaymen, theirs had come in the previous outing and they were looking to build on it. They were 17th – three places and two points above their hosts at 3pm.

Though the Glovers had lost their previous two, they had only been beaten at home once in 2017-18 and did the double over the Alex without conceding a goal last term.

Goals in either half from Rhys Browne and Olufela Olomola ensured that Yeovil Town returned to winning ways at Huish Park with a 2-0 victory over Crewe Alexandra.

Yeovil looked to be in control for the first half an hour following a frantic start. Olomola had an early shot trickle into Dave Richards’ hands before Chris Porter shaved the outside of Artur Kryisak’s post after being put through by George Cooper.

Olomola had another opportunity but could only fire wide before the end to end opening looked to settle down when Browne broke the deadlock just before the quarter hour mark. A Ryan Dickson long throw was cleared out to him to send the ball back in, it was flicked on by Zoko before Browne fired home with a tremendous volley.

Crewe did have a chance to equalise straight from the restart but headed over. Otis Khan began to get into the game, winning a couple of corners and Jordan Bowery had another chance at the other end but he also fired over...
