Crewe Alex are out of the Checkatrade Trophy after losing 1-0 at home to Oldham Athletic at Gresty Road on Tuesday night.
Jack Byrne’s first-half strike separated the sides as manager David Artell’s side lost for the sixth consecutive game.
It means Crewe have lost both of their Group D games and cannot progress in the competition.
But more worrying is their recent record which includes eight defeats in the last nine and only two goals in the last six – five of them blanks.
Artell had signalled his intentions to try to stay in the Checkatrade by only making three changes to his line-up.

Richie Wellens made it three wins out of three as Jack Byrne’s 25-yard strike ensured a 0-1 win over Crewe Alexandra in the Checkatrade Trophy.
Byrne fired just before half time to win the game and put Latics on to four points in Group D.
