Artell: "We Will Keep Working On The Mentality"

25 October 2017

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says there is not one common theme that is preventing the club from finding that consistency that would make us serious contenders in League Two this season. The Alex were looking for a third successive home win at the weekend but were beaten 2-0 by Accrington Stanley at Gresty Road.

John Coleman’s Stanley side were allowed to get a firm grip on the contest after scoring twice in the opening ten minutes. Crewe did create a number of chances, mainly in the first half, but again couldn’t find a way back into the game.

Ahead of this weekend’s trip to Colchester, Artell told crewealex.net: “There is not one obvious thing. If there was, it would certainly make it easier to have the remedy. There isn’t.

“We are dealing with 11, 12, 13 people each game and it can be different things. There is not one common thing. It is up to us to make sure that when they step onto the pitch, their mindset is spot on.

“They have to develop that winning mindset. It is easy to say and rolls off the tongue, but not so easy to develop it. It is not an overnight thing but we have to try and make sure that when they step onto the pitch they are in the frame of mind like they were against Notts County.

David added: “When they are like that, they can compete with anyone in this league. “
