Artell Wants To Take Last Week's Courage Into Yeovil Clash

13 October 2017

David Artell says he wants his players to show the same level of courage that resulted in us getting that first win in six league games last week.

The Alex boss was delighted that his side showed the confidence and bravery to continue to press and look for a late winner against Stevenage. That determination paid off with Jordan Bowery converting a stoppage time winner following a smart turn and shot.

The Crewe boss now wants his players to build on that 1-0 win with another solid display at Yeovil.

David told crewealex.net: “I have always felt that the braver you are in this world, the luckier you become. We kept going against Stevenage last season when we could have settled for a point and stopped a run of successive defeats, but we didn’t.

“We kept trying to get into the final third and put the ball in their box and it finally paid off with Jordan’s goal.

“That is the courage I like to see. I want them to get on the ball and keep going when things aren’t going their way. If you show courage when blocking a shot to stop it going towards goal or you put in a tackle, it is the same thing.

“It is all about doing those minor details that add up on the pitch.

“We are not getting carried away. If we had lost in the final minute last weekend, it would have been all doom and gloom again and the performance would have been forgotten. What is important now is that we build on that at Yeovil.”
