David Artell is an admirer of the work that Colchester United have adopted over a number of years to develop their own young players. The Crewe Alexandra manager is looking forward to this weekend’s trip to Essex and the chance to register another win on the road this season.
Artell, who worked inside the Crewe Academy before being promoted to first-team manager in January said: “Colchester have worked hard on their youth development and I know they have used us as a bit of a beacon.
“Their chairman and board have a good relationship with ours and I know they asked about how we did things here. They are a similar sized club to us, same sort of fan base and revenue and they have done well to produce some young players that have been good enough to play for the first-team. It is never easy to do that.
“Saturday though will be 11 men versus 11 men and it is up to us to perform on the road. “
