Artell: "Playing To Our Strengths Is Key"

17 October 2017

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says his players have to continue to play with courage starting against the current league leaders Notts County this evening. The Alex go into tonight’s game against Kevin Nolan’s side on the back of just one win in seven games.

Artell believes that his side ‘moved away from what was bringing us success’ at Yeovil on Saturday and he says that perseverance will be key against the in-form Magpies.

“We have got to persevere with what we are good at. It is up to me to cajole the best out of them, ‘says David.

“We have to reinforce what we are good at and the players have to recognise that on the pitch. That comes with experience.

“We were terrific at times at Yeovil, especially in the first half but we moved away from doing that. We went long and started launching the ball to their centre-half's head. He was thankful for that because in the first half we were playing it down the side of him, dropping off and combining really well and we were getting a lot of joy.

“We were successful and then for whatever reason we moved away from that. They have to realise that. It is sometimes difficult to get that message over to them from the touchline.

“They have to make those decisions and see that for themselves sometimes.”
