Artell: "Opportunity Missed"

24 October 2017

David Artell says that the 2-0 home defeat by Accrington was a good opportunity missed by the club to climb the League Two table.

The Crewe Alexandra boss was frustrated that we couldn’t register a third home win on the bounce after conceding the two goals inside the opening ten minutes.

Although we had chances to have got back into the game, the Alex boss was disappointed that we didn’t take more risks in the closing half-an-hour to perhaps rock John Coleman’s side a bit.

Artell told the club’s official website: “It was an opportunity missed for sure. We had been going well at home but we made some mistakes inside the opening 10 minutes and gave ourselves a mountain to climb. It is highs and lows at the minute.

“John Coleman said to us afterwards that we would win plenty of games playing like that and I said yeah, you are probably right but it doesn’t count for anything when you have lost.

“We created enough chances in the first half to have gone in level or even ahead and John said that he had a bit of a go at them at half-time because we were playing better than them but they won the game and we didn’t.

“It was similar to the Yeovil game where we were decent in between the two boxes but we were not ruthless enough in both boxes.

“It is a rollercoaster of ups and downs at the minute and we know that if we want it to be a successful season, we have to move away from that rollercoaster.”
