Artell: "Delighted For Everyone"

17 October 2017

David Artell praised his side’s all round performance after they secured a well-deserved 2-0 win over Notts County. Goals in each half from the excellent Michael Raynes and striker Jordan Bowery provided the springboard for our best result of the season so far.

It cost the Magpies top spot as Luton Town went above both Notts County and Exeter City.

After the 2-0 win, Artell told crewealex.net: “When they perform like that and show that courage on the ball and in our defending then you get a performance and result like that. We need to be more consistent but we are fine.

“I was talking about pressure last week and I know it is easy to say when you have had a good win, but I know what is in the dressing room and what they are capable of. It is up to me to get that out of them more often.

“To a man I thought we were terrific and when we perform like that then we can beat any team in this league.

“I said to Kenny (Lunt) that I would have loved to have been out there. They are lucky buggers to still be playing in a game like that. I am delighted for them all. They deserved it but again it is one win.

“It is now two games we have won at home and we have another one on Saturday against Accrington Stanley and we will have to do it again. If we play like that then we can beat anyone, it is now up to us to make sure we do.

“The fans were terrific with us. They really got behind us and I couldn’t fault them. It took a bit of time for them to warm up and I understand that after the run we have been on.

“After 25 minutes, half an hour, they thought we are giving as good as we get here and the crowd lifted. They were terrific for us and I didn’t hear their fans. I think they got a corner and clapped in the corner.

“It really means a lot to have that support behind us and like I said they deserve all the plaudits. The front two worked their socks off and defended from the front. The ball stuck up there and it makes a massive difference when you are trying to secure that clean-sheet.

He added: “Raynes will get the plaudits and deservedly so. The team deserved the clean-sheet and we go again on Saturday.”
