Boss:"Players Have To Be Mentally Prepared"

8 November 2017

David Artell believes that it is up to the players to take it upon themselves to be mentally prepared better for what is to come when matches kick off.

The Alex boss was left fuming with the start we made at Vale Park last night and after conceding two goals inside the opening eight minutes, any early game plan was instantly shredded.

Crewe battled back well to make a real go of it with Lewis Reilly’s two goals on his full debut setting up a grandstand finish, but the home side broke away in the final minute to put the result beyond us.

Artell was angered by our awful start in a local derby and says that the players have to be in the right frame of mind for competitive football.

The Crewe boss told the club’s official website:  “As much as we try to get in the players’ head and help them with the information we provide them they have to take it upon themselves to be mentally prepared. They have to be.

“It doesn’t make sense to me that some of them were perhaps not in the right frame of mind at the start of that game. When you are two goals down inside eight minutes, I think they have answered it themselves.”
