Boss Not Considering Resting Players For Cup-Tie

1 November 2017

Boss says players have to earn the right to play in his team.

David Artell says he isn’t considering resting players for our FA Cup tie against Rotherham United on Saturday. Crewe host the Millers aiming to bounce back from successive defeats to Accrington Stanley and last time out to Colchester United.

When questioned by the media if he may rest some of his team in readiness for our next league game against Lincoln City on 11th November, the Crewe boss quickly dismissed the notion of resting players.

Artell told the club’s official website: “The best players will play. Those that work hard in training always have a chance of playing but they have to earn the right to play.

“Why I would want to reward mediocre work rate or form by giving them a game?  You have to earn the right to play. Well, you do in my team.

"I'm sure Paul Warne won't be resting too many either. Knowing him like I do, he will be wanting to get through as much as me.

The boss added: “It is a great opportunity to play a team that is in a higher league than us. They were in the Championship last year and have some very good players. It is a great platform for our players to show what they can do. “
