Artell On Forest Green Test

14 November 2017

David Artell says that this weekend’s opponents, Forest Green Rovers, have more than found their feet in the EFL and have continued to impress opposition managers.

Crewe Alexandra travel to the New Lawn ground for the first time on Saturday, aiming to end a run of three successive defeats in the league.

Mark Cooper’s side come into the game on a run of three wins and a draw from their last four matches and they have also knocked our Cheshire neighbours Macclesfield Town out of the FA Cup.

Forest Green Rovers are currently just a point behind the Railwaymen and they will be aiming to leapfrog over us this weekend.

Ahead of our trip to the New Lawn, Artell told us: “It has taken them a bit of time to find their feet but they have now. They are playing some good stuff and I know that when we spoke to the staff at Accrington they were telling us that they were the best side they had faced all season.

“It will be a tough game but we have to accept that football doesn’t go your way all the time. There will be periods in the 90 minutes where the game won’t go for us and that we cannot play pretty football all the time.

“We will have to match them and we know that Mark likes his sides to play the right way. I saw their recent game against Crawley and they should have been out of sight in the first half. They were that good. They reminded me a bit of us on Saturday!

“Crawley scored an equaliser and came more into it but Forest Green deserved the points for the way they played in the game. They have done really well to get in the league and they will be doing everything possible to make sure they stay there.”
