David Artell appreciates that his Crewe Alexandra side will have to be at their defensive best if we are going to contain free flowing Luton Town this weekend. The Hatters have scored 46 league goals already in League Two and they top the table on goal difference ahead of Notts County.
Artell was delighted with the three points attained at Morecambe on Tuesday evening and the chances we created, but he was also aware that we rode our luck a little in the first half. The Crewe Alexandra boss appreciates that we can ill-afford to grant the likes of Danny Hylton and James Collins too many chances at the Alexandra Stadium.
Ahead of our league encounter with the Hatters, Dave said: “We know the threat Luton pose and it will be up to us to limit their chances. We usually start game well but that wasn’t the case on Tuesday night. Thompson had a great chance with a header and Kev Ellison hit the crossbar and the post.
“We had our chances too. Chris Porter had a couple of opportunities. Eddie Nolan should have scored. Lewis Reilly had a late chance. Daggers went close in the first half so we created a lot of good chances on the night.
“I thought we finished the game really strongly and going into the final 20, 15 minutes I thought we were more likely to win the game.
The boss added: “We know Luton have scored a lot of goals this season and they have good players but they have also lost games and they drew 0-0 with Morecambe, so we have nothing to fear.”
