Artell: "All About Getting In The Hat"

2 November 2017

David Artell says it is has to be ‘horses for courses’ in the FA Cup and the most important thing is progressing to the next round of the competition. The Alex take on League One Rotherham in the first round of the competition on Saturday and Artell knows that it is all about the result come ten-to-five.

Artell believes that his Crewe side have what it takes to cause a cup upset if they play the occasion correctly.

Ahead our FA Cup clash, Artell told us: “It is a one off game in the FA Cup and anything can happen. I was at Shrewsbury and we were heading out of the Football League but we still managed to lift ourselves and knock Everton out.

“It is still the best competition in the world for me. It is horses for courses. You have to do the right things to get the result and get through. It is all about making sure you are in the hat for the next round.

“A cup run can transform a lower league club. You only have to see what happened to Crawley, Burton or even Lincoln last season. It can give you unexpected revenue that you have haven’t budgeted for and can allow you to build momentum.

“It is a chance for the players to again test themselves against a club from a higher league. They were in the Championship last season, so they are going to have top players but it is a great opportunity for us to cause an upset.”
