All About Winning Those Personal Battles

1 November 2017

As we aim to get back on track following back-to-back defeats, David Artell wants his players to go back to basics and concentrate on winning their own personal battles.

Crewe take on Rotherham United in the FA Cup this weekend and Artell hopes that his side can put on a positive performance and cause an upset.

Artell told the club’s official website: “The pressure has to be in their performance and getting the better of their opponent on the day.

“There is no point thinking about league positions or this and that at the moment. They have to remain calm, calculated and methodical in getting the better of their opponent in the game.

“Their focus has to be on what they can do to get one up on them, how to stop them or get in behind them to hurt them. All the rest is external forces and their focus should be on them becoming better players.

“I’m sure someone like Sergio Aguero isn’t thinking about Manchester City being top of the league. I would imagine he is focussed on cutting the throat of the centre-half so he can score a goal and help his team.

“If they top on a Saturday night, then great, brilliant, but then it is on to the next game and the same again. It is all about the next 90 minutes and getting that result regardless of it being in the League, the FA Cup or the Checkatrade. It doesn’t matter that is the way it has got to be.”
