Ainley: "A Great Feeling To Win In The Last Minute"

6 November 2017

The club’s FA Cup match winner Callum Ainley says that he was just delighted that his last minute winner has put Crewe Alexandra in the hat for Round Two. The draw will take place this evening on BBC 2.

Ainley, who recently celebrated his 20th birthday,  ran in behind in the final minute of the game to latch onto Chris Porter’s through ball and he kept his composure fantastically well to lift it over Richard O’Donnell in the Rotherham goal and then touch it home for a 2-1 win.

Callum told crewealex.net: “I thought we were nowhere near in the first half but we got after them more after half-time and produced a much better second half performance to win the game.

“We had been working on that and Ports is capable of producing a pass like that. He was joking to me after the game about how well me and him link up but I do think we have a good understanding.

“It was a great ball and I was just hoping to get on the end of it. I managed to get it over the goalkeeper and then my thought was just to get another touch and thankfully the defender hasn’t been able to get in time to get it off the line.

“It was a great feeling to score in the final minute and put us through. The most important thing was that we won the game. In cup ties, it is all about winning and making sure you get through. I don’t mind who we get in the draw but another home game would be nice.”
