Cooke: "Good Group Of Youngsters At Crewe"

15 May 2017

Calum Cooke says Crewe youngsters can make for successful season.

Callum Cooke says that he expects Crewe Alexandra to have a successful season. Cooke returned to his parent club Middlesbrough at the end of the season after becoming a firm favourite with the Crewe faithful. The England Youth International scored four goals in 18 appearances for the club and the attacking midfielder says that the young players coming through the club should see us have a much better campaign next season.

Cooke told the club’s official web-site: “When I came into the club, I was shocked with how young the squad was. They all seemed to be my around my age or even younger but I soon saw how they good they were in training.

“There are some really good players at Crewe and it wouldn’t surprise me to see some of them play a lot higher in the future. Ashley Westwood and Nick Powell did it and there is no reason why they can’t.

"There are the likes of Jonah and George Cooper who had great seasons and then the likes of Wintle, Perry, Ainley and Kirk coming through as well.

“The manager can get the best out of them and they have the freedom to play. They get the opportunity at Crewe and that is great for them.”
