16-goal Colchester striker to join Crewe from July 1
Crewe Alexandra Football Club has agreed a deal to sign striker Chris Porter on a free transfer when his current deal at Colchester United expiries on June 30 2017.
The 33-year-old hit 16-goals for the U's last season & has turned down a new contract at The Weston Homes Community Stadium to put pen-to-paper on a two-year-deal, with a further year as an option, at The Alex.
Porter enjoyed a proflific two-and-a-half-year stay in Colchester, bagging a total of 30 goals in 95 appearances after joining from Sheffield United in January 2015.
He had spent four-and-a-half years with The Blades, scoring 23 in 118 games, whilst also enjoying brief loans at Shrewsbury Town & Chesterfield.
The centre forward enjoyed a prolific season in front of goal in 2016/17, & started his career in 2002 at Bury where he spent three years before moving to Oldham, Motherwell and then Derby County for a reported £400,000 fee.
The Wigan-born forward is a vastly experienced goal-scorer and he has an impressive record over his 15-year professional career, scoring 141 goals in 490 appearances during his career.
Porter played two seasons for The Rams in the Championship from 2009, notching nine goals in 50 appearances before moving to Bramall Lane.
