Artell: "Winning Mentality Has To Improve"

8 May 2017

David Artell after subtle change to grind out more results.

David Artell will aim to install a winning mentality throughout the club as he looks forward to a busy summer. The Alex boss believes that is vitally important that the club’s youngsters begin to really see winning as part of performance rather than solely focussing on their own development as players.

The Crewe Alexandra boss said: “The Academy is brilliant at producing footballers. The coaches do a fantastic job is producing young players good enough to become professional footballers because that is difficult in itself.

“We produce players, so they can go to places like Portsmouth and Plymouth and play them off the pitch, football wise. We passed them to death and they both had to change.

“We want our kids to have that freedom to express themselves but winning is also a big part of performance. We got the plaudits against Plymouth but lost the game. That has to change.

The boss added: “We have to boss games with our football, mix things up when we have to and make sure we get over the line and get a result. It is a subtle shift but it something we have to install.”
