Boss says players will be released for the right reasons.
David Artell says there is ‘no room for sentiment’ when he concludes his retain list with his staff later this week.
The Alex boss has already held talks with members of his squad that he will not keeping beyond the summer and he will hold talks with a couple more very soon.
The Crewe boss told crewealex.net: “There can be no room for sentiment when it comes to deciding who to keep and who to let go. It is part of football and it is something that has to be done.
“I would love to have a squad of 40 and keep all the good lads but that is not possible. It is not easy to let players go, especially when they have been here for a long time but the decisions are made for the right reasons.
“As a professional footballer, you have to give it everything you have. You have to do the right things and that is why professional becomes before footballer.
“I’ve spoken to most of them now. I have to speak to one or two more and we will have everything sorted this week.”
