U18: Crewe 5-2 Barnsley

16 March 2017

Bell tastes first victory as youth team boss

Crewe Alexandra Under 18’s recorded an impressive 5-2 victory over Barnsley last weekend, as the threat to open-the-floodgates in recent matches proved dividends at Reaseheath.

The fantastic Joe Lynch scored twice & assisted another as Crewe got back to winning ways following an eight game lull.

Alex Hurst opened the scoring from close-range for Crewe, diverting home Lynch’s cross, before the Tykes levelled it up at 1-1 a short while later.

Crewe capitalised on a poor goalkeeping clearance, Regan Griffiths teeing up Lynch to curl home his first of the afternoon, with that man Lynch again making it 3-1 after stealing in behind the defence.

The Alex weren’t done there for the first-half, Griffiths made it 4-1 at the break after collecting Oli Harrison’s through ball & dispatching confidently past the keeper.

Barnsley piled on the pressure in the second period & made it 4-2 with a header from a cross before hitting the crossbar moments later, but Crewe killed the game off with style late on, Harry Pickering collecting on his chest before firing home to wrap-up the impressive victory.

Crewe: Wardley, Johnson, Sass-Davies, Wilkinson, Offord, Harrison, Lundstram, Hurst, Lynch, Pickering, Griffiths
