David Artell says that Crewe are only focussed on what we do in the wake of Newport managerial change.
In the wake of Graham Westley’s dismissal at Newport County AFC, the Crewe Alexandra boss Davis Artell has stated that nothing surprises him in football.
The Alex boss admits that Westley’s immediate predecessor, Michel Flynn, may elect to do something different at Gresty Road this weekend but the Crewe boss wants his team to focus solely on what we need to do.
Westley was sacked yesterday with the Exiles bottom of the table and on the back of a 4-0 home defeat by Leyton Orient.
Artell told crewealex.net: “Football never surprises me and it is always sad when a manager loses his job. I am sad for Graham but that was a decision for the Newport board. I suppose when you are bottom of the league, you must be expecting a phone call from the Chairman.
“I am not sure if it will have an effect on them. It may to and their manager might well do something different but all we can do is concentrate on ourselves. If we apply ourselves correctly like we did at Portsmouth then we will be fine. If we play like we did against Hartlepool in the second half then we could be in for a long afternoon.
He added: “It is unfortunate that Graham has lost his job but it is what it is and it has not altered our preparation this week.”
