Artell says no-one is guranteed a starting place in his side.
David Artell has told the club’s official web-site that competition is so fierce amongst his squad at the moment that he admits that defender Jon Guthrie will have a tough job to win his place back in the starting line-up.
Guthrie, who has played at centre-half and left-back for us this season, is making good progress after being forced out of action with a problematic hernia.
The Crewe boss told the club’s official web-site: “The competition is good and that is what I wanted to create. If a player is left out they are left out for the right reasons. We made a tactical change when we played away at Portsmouth when I left George out. He needed a rest and has come back stronger.
“Jon Guthrie has been terrific for us this season but he is out injured at the moment. He will have a job to get back in and he understands that. I’ve spoken to him about it.
“The back four have been terrific. They have kept four clean sheets out of five, so they are in possession of the shirt. When he is back fit and he is still not quite there yet, then he will provide even more competition.“
