Artell: "We Pick Ourselves Up And Go Again"

14 March 2017

Alex boss says his team have to learn from harsh Newport lesson.

.David Artell appreciates that his young Crewe Alexandra side have been far too inconsistent but the boss is looking for another positive response against Dermot Drummy’s Crawley side this evening. The Railwaymen will be aiming to bounce back from Saturday’s disappointing 2-1 home defeat by Newport County AFC

Ahead of our mid-week fixture, David told the club’s official web-site: “We had them in on Sunday, went through a few things, we'll show them a few things from Saturday because we need to learn from it.

“We have to learn from it but we can't change it, so let's get looking forward. Three points on Tuesday and everything is looking more rosy again.

“We need to be fully equipped and ready, and we have a great opportunity to go there and put in a performance we know we are capable of.

“If we win at Crawley it's six points out of nine, and you’d have taken that. But when you put in a second-half performance like we did on Saturday it doesn't feel like that at the minute.

“We have to pick the boys up and go again. Not much has changed down the bottom, but we can't rely on the others. We are good enough to stay in this league and we have to do it on merit.

“We have enough ability we just have to be more consistent.

“We have to show that real commitment and desire. I keep going on about those words but they are so important.

“We have to be honest and say they deserved their victory, Newport. But they didn't have anything other than commitment and desire, and we succumbed.

He added: “Crawley have some good players but are not on a great run themselves, but any team on their day can beat any other in this league.”
