David Artell says the players deserve the credit for turning fortunes around.
David Artell has told crewealex.net that the players’ mind-set is beginning to shift. The Alex have won four of their last five games to pull away from the bottom two places and Artell is quick to state that his players deserve the credit for turning things around.
The Crewe boss who took over from Steve Davis in early January, says there is a long way to go but he admits that a corner has been turned.
David told us: “Every day I am learning. I have only been in the job for two months and I am not Jose Mourinho, but I think everyone has worked hard to turn things around.
“We have a long way to go but I think we are in a better place than we were two months ago. The mind-set is better and we are relishing the challenges.
“We had a tough start against Doncaster, Luton and Exeter but I am sure the players would love to play those games again at this moment. I am sure the players will be thinking they can go there and get a result.
“They are getting the plaudits and rewards they deserve because of the hard work they have put in. We haven’t done anything yet, but we have come some distance from where we were.
“The frame of mind they had was hard to break but they have done it and the winning mentality is getting there.
He added: “Some of the first team played a small sided game against the U-18s yesterday, it was only 20 minutes or so but they made sure they won the game. It wasn’t about putting the lads in their place or anything like that but I thought good on you. That is a winning mentality. You could see that they didn’t want to lose.”
