Artell: "Perfect Stage To Stand Up And Be Counted"

3 March 2017

Boss wants his players to embrace the challenge of upsetting the odds against Portsmouth.

David Artell says that his Crewe side have the perfect opportunity to stand up and be counted at Fratton Park this weekend. The Alex players are still licking their wounds following a disappointing 4-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Hartlepool United on Tuesday evening but Artell believes that a good result against one of the promotion hunters will be the perfect platform.

Ahead of our weekend trip to Pompey, Artell said: “We can do it. We have shown that on our day we can be a good side. We have also shown that we can embrace the challenge of defending well and showing that resilience to get a good result.

it. “We showed that against Wycombe. It wasn’t a great game of football for the football purist and people will say that it was a typical League Two game, but we embraced the challenge, defended well, stood up to the fight and came through

“Now, it won’t be like at Portsmouth. They will play football and won’t have the same physical approach as a Wycombe but we will have to defend differently. We will have to keep it tight and embrace the challenge, whilst always looking to create and score goals ourselves.

“We have to show that character and desire to get on the ball in front of 15,000 plus and run our socks off when we don’t have the ball. It is a question of men or mice and it is all about standing up and being counted.”
