Artell On His Managerial Challenges

16 March 2017

David Artell says that he contuinues to learn with every game

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says that he is continuing to learn the managerial ropes on the job and admits that he is thinking about his team and ways to improve constantly.

The Alex boss was angered by his side’s second half collapse against Newport County last weekend, but he quickly devised a plan to get a fantastic response at Crawley on Tuesday evening.

David admitted to the club’s official web-site: “I'm not one to take it out on my wife and children but I don't sleep very well.

“My wife went to bed on Saturday and I was up still thinking about it.

“It's not a case of dwelling on it or moping around, it's about what will make us improve? What can I do better to help the players?

“It comes second to spending a bit of time with my kids, but then I'm back to analysing what happened.

“The post-match analysis I do in my own head, I might get to the solutions quicker the more I have done it. But it'll still happen, self-reflection is a really important tool, I want to get better.

“It's not about me, it's about the players, always has been. I'll take the flak when they lose and they'll get all the credit when they win, that's important.

Dave added: “I think that's what the best manager's do and I'm trying to be the best manager I can be.”
