Artell Delighted With Defensive Display

27 March 2017

Artell happy but wants more as Crewe move to 16th place.

David Artell praised his side’s defensive capabilities are they kept another clean sheet away from home. Crewe’s 2-0 win at Carlisle was the club’s third successive clean-sheet on the road following shot outs at Portsmouth and Crawley Town.

place on 48 points in the League Two table. thThe Alex boss was delighted as a fourth win out of five took Crewe into 16

Following the 2-0 win at Carlisle, Artell said: “We stood up to Carlisle’s physical approach early on. They came at us in the first 15/20 minutes and we gave them the initiative because we wanted to play a bit of football and didn’t keep the ball as well as we wanted.

“We settled into the game after that and we defended really well. I must say that the centre-halves headed most of the crosses going into our box and so did Zooms and Ollie. Billy also did well in front of them.

“It is four clean-sheets out of five for us and to go away from home and keep three clean-sheets is terrific.

“We went to Portsmouth and played them off the park and that doesn’t half give you a lift. We went into that game on the back of a 4-0 defeat at Hartlepool, so it could have gone a different way but the lads have done superbly well.”
