David Artell says club have re-signed the best goalkeeper in League Two.
David Artell has expressed his delight in Ben Garratt agreeing to extend his stay at Crewe Alexandra until 2019. The 22-year-old has signed a new two-year deal with the club after having talks with the club’s new manager over the last couple of months.
Artell believes that Garratt is the best goalkeeper in League Two and feels he will one day go on to bigger and better things.
The boss told the club’s official web-site: “The deal had been on the table for a while and I am delighted that Ben has now signed. It is great for Ben, it is great for us as a team and it is great for the supporters because I feel we will have the best goalkeeper in League Two.
“Having a good goalkeeper is vital and I’ve spoken to him on a number of occasions because I wanted him to stay and to continue his develop here with us.
“He has been terrific for this club and he is a very good goalkeeper. All I said to him when I took over was for him to concentrate on keeping the ball out of the net. That is what he is good at and the clean-sheets we have been getting is some overdue glory for him because he has been our player-of-the-season for the last two years.
“People can say that he can’t be that good because as a team we have let a lot of goals in, but I completely disagree. He is an excellent goalkeeper and I am sure he will go on to bigger and better things.
“He has 10, 12, 14 years left in his career yet and he has already played over 150 games already.”
