Artell: "Building For Next Season Is Underway"

9 March 2017

Boss says process underway as he targets potential recruits.

The process of building his squad for next season is already a work in progress reports David Artell. The Crewe Alexandra boss has a number of players’ futures to decide upon with a large number going out of contract in the summer, but Artell has already started his planning for next season and will meet the club’s scouting and recruitment staff on Saturday.

Artell has already seen Zoumana Bakayogo’s contract extended by a further 12 months after the left-back activated a clause in his contact by appearing in a number of games this season. The Crewe boss is also continuing talks with goalkeeper Ben Garratt and defender Jon Guthrie to convince them to remain with the club beyond their current deals.

Artell said: “We are already discussing our plans for next season and a plan is in place. I have spoken to a couple of players and I’m sure I will be speaking to others over the next couple of months.

“That process has already started and I will meet again with the scouts on Saturday to inform them what we are on the lookout for. We will do as much preparation as possible and try and get better in for the positions we need. That’s the challenge and I want hungry footballers who want to come here and achieve something.”
