Kenny Lunt says older heads will help with game management in tough situations
Kenny Lunt told the club’s official website that manager David Artell wanted to target older heads to help our Academy graduates come on. Lunt was a youngster alongside the likes of Gareth Whalley, Shaun Smith, Steve Macauley and later Dave Brammer before he himself captained the club before securing a move to Sheffield Wednesday.
Meanwhile, manager David Artell captained our 2012 promotion winning side alongside old heads Steve Phillips and Lee Bell. Artell controlled a dressing room that contained talented young players such as Nick Powell and Max Clayton and the then inexperienced back players Kelvin Mellor and Harry Davis.
Lunt told crewealex.net: “We sat down and we all spoke about adding some experienced players into the group. We wanted some more talkers, some leaders, who have been there and done it. I think we have been able to do that so far.
“They will help the dressing room and the younger ones. Their game management will be better. They know how to cope better with the other side of the game.
“Having more experienced players, especially with the two forward players we have bought in, will allow us to change things in a game. We couldn’t do that too often last season and we have more options now.”
