David Artell says he wants to help Chris Porter get a promotion on his CV.
David Artell has revealed that his new summer signing Chris Porter spoke of promotion when they met for talks. Porter, 33, agreed to sign for the Alex after deciding to leave Colchester United at the end of the season and Artell was impressed with the forward’s hunger to succeed.
Artell met Porter in a hotel just hours before he flew out on holiday to make sure the deal was secured and he was delighted to sign the former Derby and Sheffield United man.
David told the club’s official website: “Chris had other offers but he chose to come here and I am delighted to have got him. He is an astute fella and I am not one for false promises.
“It was straight forward. He knows what I want from him and he knows what we are trying to achieve here.
“Chris said to me, I’ve never been promoted. I could see the drive in him. At 33, that will do for me. You cannot go far wrong with players like that and we will do everything to help him get one on his CV before he stops playing.
“All three of our signings will be great additions to the squad.”
