Artell: "I Targeted Players Of A Certain Age"

16 June 2017

David Artell says that he targeted experienced players after receiving some great advice early on in his managerial career.

Artell wanted to increase the average age of his squad this summer and has moved quickly to sign Chris Porter, Michael Raynes and Jordan Bowery.

He is still after three or four new faces but Artell is pleased with the business conducted so far.

He told the club’s official web-site: “I received some great advice about signing certain players. He told me that you should try and sign players around 25-26 or older because they are beginning to settle down. They might be married or having kids.

“You want those who are settled in their family life but they want to do well. They have to have that hunger and I saw that in the three we have managed to sign.

“Chris and Michael were the captains of their clubs last season. One of them was involved in the play-offs and the other one narrowly missed out, so that says everything I needed to know about them as people.”
