New Crewe Alexandra defender Michael Raynes has praised Manager David Artell for his approach in bringing the former Carlisle man to Gresty Road.
The 29-year-old turned down fresh terms at Brunton Park to join Crewe after talks with Artell & the location being so close to his family home in Manchester.
After getting married during the off-season, Raynes is in a happy place right now & can’t wait to get going in pre-season.
He exclusively told iFollow: “It’s good, I feel like a new kid walking in like being back at school!
“But it’s been good. The lads have been really welcoming, so I’m looking forward to getting going.
“I’ve become a married man this summer since signing, which is a bit different, but it was a great day. That’s done now, another thing ticked off the list & I’m ready for football now!
“It was difficult to leave Carlisle after two good years there, but when I came here I knew. It’s 45 minutes from my house, over the past ten years I’ve lived away from home for long periods so when something like this became available it was a no-brainer for me.
“The gaffer had a massive impact too. I’ve played against him numerous times & he sort of put it to me that he was in my position when we were a similar age & he said it was the best decision he ever made coming here. He said it wasn’t about chasing money up & down the motorways, it was about happiness.
“We had that conversation, & if I’m honest that sold the place to me & that was what made me sign here. He sold the Club to me, & that coupled with location-wise it was right for me.
“I just want to get going now & get into it. No one likes running but we’ve just got to get it out of the way & then when that’s done, we’ll be good to go."
