Artell: "Porter Signing Shows Our Intent"

1 June 2017

David Artell is delighted to have added ‘another leader’ to his dressing room as he continues to reshape his squad for the coming season.

Artell has made the experienced striker Chris Porter his third signing of the summer and he believes that the 33-year-old will play an invaluable role both inside and outside of the dressing room.

The Crewe Alexandra boss is pleased to have three of his main transfer targets already sealed before pre-season training resumes at the end of June. Porter has joined fellow striker Jordan Bowery and Michael Raynes as new recruits at the Alexandra Stadium and by getting his business done early Artell says that it shows real intent from the club.

Artell told crewealex.net: “I believe that signing Chris is a real coup for the Football Club. It shows the level of our intent and we are delighted that he has agreed to sign for us.

“Chris has a wealth of experience and has scored goals throughout his career. He is another leader and he will help the younger ones, like I am sure Michael (Raynes) will do as well.

“We wanted to add some experience to the dressing room and getting someone of Chris’ calibre is helping us improve the spine of the team.

“I’ve played against him and he is a top professional. He wanted to come here and that was important. I’m sure the fans will take to him because he is a team player.

He added: “I wanted to do some of our business early and to have got the three in we have done is a boost. We will still add more to the squad because we know we need others. I hope it has given the fans a lift and they will come and get behind the team and make us hard to beat.”
