David Artell has revealed that he met Chris Porter in a hotel just hours before he flew out on holiday! With Artell set to jet out for a holiday with his family and Porter getting married this summer, the Crewe Alexandra manager did not want his transfer target to slip out of his grasp due to timings, so he went that extra mile to make sure the experienced striker chose us.

Artell told the club’s official web-site: “I have been in the job for six months and it is what it is. If you have to go that extra mile then you do it.

“I was going on holiday and Chris is getting married this summer, so I didn’t want it to drag out and have to wait another three or four weeks, so I met him at a hotel just hours before I was going to fly out with the family. I have a very understanding wife!

“I just think that is part of the job. You have to do it. I don’t know it is the norm or not but I wanted Chris to come here and I was prepared to do it to get it over the line. For me that is part of the job.”
