Artell 'Comfortable' With His Own Contract Situation

21 June 2017

Artell says he will be Crewe manager for as long as the board want him.

David Artell has told crewealex.net that he has spoken to club chairman John Bowler and members of the board of directors about his own contract. Artell is not concerned about the situation and has revealed that he is delighted to continue as Crewe Alexandra manager after succeeding Steve Davis back in January.

Artell guided Crewe to a 17th place finish and he is now planning for the future by trying to bring in his own players to improve his squad.

Artell told crewealex.net: “I’ve met with the chairman and he offered me a contract and we are still talking.

“He said 'here's a formal contract' and I said 'great, thanks very much'.

“If we had finished on the last day of the season just surviving I'm sure the board might have been thinking a bit different.

“I'm pleased, of course I am. And I'm grateful. But I haven't seen it as a big deal, it's more important that we get the right players in – that's all I've been thinking about.

“I could have told you on January 10, I'll be the manager of this football club for as long as the chairman and the board want me to be manager of this football club.

“I think out of thousands of hours of chats between myself, the chairman, Charles Grant and the rest of the board I think we have spoken about Dave Artell for about five hours.

David added: “Honestly, I'm not particularly comfortable speaking about myself. I don't like promoting myself, I'd rather just get on with the job and that's what I'm doing.”
