Porter Absence Was A Precaution

24 July 2017

Chris Porter was a late withdrawal from Crewe Alexandra’s starting line-up at Bury after revealing some discomfort when he was shooting in the warm-up. Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell took no chances with the striker and replaced him with Tom Lowery in the starting line-up.

The Crewe Alexandra boss expects Porter to recover quickly and he could be involved against Macclesfield Town tomorrow evening.

Artell told the club’s official web-site: “Chris came in from the warm up saying he had felt something when he side footed the ball, so we wasn’t going to play. He wanted to but I didn’t want to risk him. I just said that if he did play and it ruled him out for 4-6 weeks then he would be devastated and I would be devastated as well.

“It was purely precaution and he will be fine. He is an important player and for the sake of starting a pre-season friendly it wasn’t worth it.

“He has been assessed. He will train today and will be back doing ball work tomorrow. He could yet play some part at Macclesfield tomorrow night.”
