Places Still Up For Grabs

17 July 2017

Door is still open for players to grab their chance.

David Artell has admitted that places in his team remain very much up for grabs in his starting XI. The Crewe boss has told the club’s official web-site that the door is very much open for players to stake their claim ahead of the new season.

Crewe take on Barrow FC (Tuesday night) and Alsager Town (Wednesday) this week and the Alex boss says that it is another opportunity for his players to make an impression. With James Jones, Jordan Bowery and George Ray the only three missing through injury, Artell and his staff will be assessing his players with a view to that opening game against Mansfield Town on 5th August.

Artell told crewealex.net: “Other than the three we have missing with injury, everyone else is fit and healthy. They are training and the squad is taking shape.

“I haven’t made a decision on who is going to play or in what position. I have things in mind but anything can happen and the door is open for all of them to grab their chance. There is no point making decisions now. We have three weeks and the door is open. It is always open. It is up to them to grab those opportunities.

“I am a firm believer in those in-form will play. I will only decide over the next few weeks, so the chances are there for all of them.”
