Artell stresses that Eddie Nolan isn't just here to act as cover.
David Artell has told the club’s official web-site that his latest summer signing Eddie Nolan has not just been brought into the club as cover. Nolan signed a 12-month deal yesterday with the potential of a further year depending on appearances and the Crewe Alexandra boss says that the versatile Irishman has every chance of forcing his way into his starting XI.
Nolan, 28, can play in various positions across the back four and in midfield and Artell says that it is up to him to stake his claim for a place.
Artell said of the former Blackburn, Preston, Scunthorpe and Blackpool defender: “Eddie is one we spoke about a few weeks ago and we didn’t make a move then because we were prioritising another potential signing.
“I’m delighted to have signed Eddie. His versatility was a major factor in us bringing him in. He can play three or four positions and he has a decent pedigree. He has played International football.
“I think he is a great addition to the squad, with the experience he can offer us. He will help with the blend amongst the squad. He isn’t just cover. He can play in various positions and if he does well then he will play, if he doesn’t then he won’t. He is like all the others.”
