Lunt On Barrow Run-Out

19 July 2017

Crewe Alexandra’s assistant manager Kenny Lunt was pleased with last night’s useful run-out at AFC Barrow. Although creating the better of the genuine chances on the night, the deadlock wasn’t broken by the Railwaymen at Holker Street.

Second half substitute Tom Lowery and George Cooper had the best of our opportunities in the second period. Crewe goalkeeper Ben Garratt was only really tested from distance during our goalless draw.

Lunt told us: “It was a good work out and most of them got 90 minutes. We knew that it would be a tough place to come. They are a big side and gave us that physical contest we were after.

“We face all sorts of styles in League Two and they stood up to it well. I thought we defended well. We had to defend set pieces and I thought we protected the goal well.

“We would have liked to have played a bit better and taken one or two of our chances to have won the game, but you are going to get games like this in pre-season. It is all about improving those fitness levels and working on that sharpness. I’m sure it will come and they will benefit from getting 90 minutes at this stage.”
