Boss: "Walker Fits The Bill"

6 July 2017

David Artell delighted to have added Brad Walker to his ranks.

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell could not hide his delight after getting another major signing under his belt this week.

Artell managed to entice the highly-regarded Brad Walker away from relegated Hartlepool United after the two clubs agreed on a compensation fee. As Walker is under the age of 24, Pools were entitled to training compensation and thankfully an agreement was met without the need for a tribunal.

Walker, 21, can play in the centre of defence, but Artell is aiming to utilise him in a more defensive minded midfield role.

The County Durham born youngster has signed a two-year deal and trained with his new team-mates for the first time this week.

Artell says that the promising youngster fits the bill: “We were delighted to get another one over the line this week after also signing Eddie (Nolan) on Monday. It shows our intent and we made no secret of the fact that we were after another midfield player.

"Brad fits the bill. He is one we monitored and were after for a while. He had a bit of interest from elsewhere, so we are delighted to have got him.

"There was a fee because of his age. Hartlepool offered him a new contract and wanted to keep him, so because he is under 24, he commands a fee. They are entitled to that and we are glad it is all sorted.

Artell: “It was a hard one to get over the line but it’s done now and we have been pleased with our transfer business this summer. The squad is really beginning to take shape and the competition for places looks good.”
