Boss Pleased With The Introdution Of Characters

11 July 2017

David Artell believes that adding a number of experienced characters to his dressing room will help with the team’s decision-making this season. The Alex boss has added the experienced Eddie Nolan, Michael Raynes and Chris Porter this summer and Artell hopes that combined with the likes of Chris Dagnall and Zoumana Bakayogo, the team will be able to look to solve problems occurring on the pitch themselves.

The boss wants the players to develop self-responsibility and believes that his new ‘characters’ will make us stronger in this trait.

Talking to the club’s official web-site, Artell said: “When you are building a team you have to look for the right characters. You want people to ask questions and be curious. That leads to improvement and I want the players to question things the right way.

“If they think that something is right then they speak up. I think we have some got some real characters who will do that. If we are having a tough time on the pitch, they need to ask the questions. How do we overcome this period? Why are the opposition hurting us? They can come up with the right answers.

“They are professional footballers and should know what is right for them and their bodies. If their hamstrings are sore then they should go in and strengthen them on their own back. They should be striving to become a better player every day.”
