Artell: "The Market Will Come Back To Us"

18 July 2017

Boss admits staff on the lookout for players.

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell stresses that he has plenty of time to add to his squad if he feels he needs to.

Artell has managed to sign five new players this summer and he has not ruled out bringing more in before the summer window closes at the end of August. The Crewe boss is assessing his options at the moment before he decides whether to dip back into the market.

The Alex boss told us: “We are still looking but we are in no rush. The market will come back to us. The players will become more desperate when the season kicks off. We have until the end of August to do some more business, so there is still time.

“Because we have been able to do our business early, it is so pressing for us. The squad is taking shape and they are training well.

“Of course, that could change if we have a few injuries in certain positions or we don’t start the season in the way we would like. If we win 3-2, 3-2 and lose 3-2 then we might be looking for a defender. If we lose 3-0, 3-0, 3-0 then it could be a forward.

“The window is not ideal but it runs until the end of August, so there is still time. That is the way it is and we have the luxury at the moment to assess things and play some more pre-season games.

“We are still looking at what is out there, and I’m sure we will be offered a few more names as we approach the start of the season. It is just nice not to have to plunge into something and use guess work more than anything.

The boss added: “We have done our homework and due diligence on our players and we have done okay so far with the ones we have managed to attract.”
