Artell Pleased With Bury Performance

24 July 2017

Jermaine Beckford’s late header may have prevented Crewe Alexandra from achieving a well-deserved victory over higher league opposition on Saturday, but boss David Artell says there were plenty of positives to take away from the performance at Gigg Lane.

New summer signing Brad Walker headed us into a deserved early lead in the first half and Crewe had enough good chances to have out the game beyond Bury before Beckford’s late header meant we had to settle for a draw.

Artell told crewealex.net: “There were a lot of positives to take from the performance on Saturday. There were also things to work on but I was generally really pleased with them. There was a lot to be pleased with.

“We played some good football and should have been further ahead with the chances we managed to create.

“We are still looking at one or two things and we are still pushing one or two as well. It will be case at Macclesfield, Bala and against Stoke this week as well.

“I learned a few things and it was a really good test for us against a strong Bury side. We tired in the last 15 minutes or so when they scored the equaliser but what is important is the bigger picture and the players are where we need them to be at this stage.”
